Villa Antinori 2011 Rosso Review |
The 2011 Villa Antinori Rosso is a blend of 55% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 5% Syrah. Once the grapes are harvested into wine, the wine is aged for 12 months in Hungarian, French, and American oak barrels. Finally, after being aged in barrels, the wine is bottled and aged for 8 months before being released to the public.
When I first tasted the wine, it was much lighter in body than I had expected, with complex flavors and slight tannins. I would describe the taste as velvety, because it was smooth throughout despite changing flavors. Various flavors I noted in the wine included dark fruits such as blackberries, as well as hints of spice.
This week, I was even able to get Nick to test out the wine and tell me what he though! Nick described the wine as having dark fruits such as currant and blackberries. He tasted slight hints of cedar and spice, with a soft long body.
Based off both Nick and I's notes, it was not difficult to determine that this wine had been carefully produced and aged! We both highly enjoyed the bottle, especially as it opened up and more flavors became available. If you are looking for a great Tuscan wine to try, I would highly recommend this one- it was very easy on the palate, and quite delicious!
