About Me

Hello & Welcome!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! My name is Samantha Angell, and I began blogging in June 2013 as 'hockey wife, hockey life'. At that point in time, my husband and I moved to Sweden for his hockey career. One of his favorite quotes is happy wife, happy life; thus the name for my original blog! After some time, my blog evolved and is now primarily travel and lifestyle. As such, it was time for a new name. I wanted something that would stick with me forever and that I could grow with, so this space became Samantha Angell: Travel & Lifestyle Blog! If you are interested in getting to know me a little bit better, continue reading below, or check out the 'popular posts' page for some of my favorite posts!

Nicholas Angell wife

My name is Samantha Angell, and I am originally from Minnesota, USA. Being from Minnesota, the state of hockey, of course I both play and love the sport- so it only makes sense that I married a hockey player on September 14, 2013. Nick and I met February 8, 2012 (read about it here!) while he was playing in Berlin, Germany. Our first year abroad together was in Karlskrona, Sweden for KHK in 2013-2014. For the 2014-2015 season, Nick played for Västerås Is Klubb (VIK). I started this blog our first year abroad after encouragement from family and friends. Since then, it has become an outlet for me to document our travels, daily life, DIY posts, and anything else that comes to mind!

I am a self-proclaimed nerd, crazy cat lady, and wine lover. Currently, I am working on obtaining my MBA with a specialization in international marketing. Right now, I only have one semester left with my MBA courses and am beyond excited to graduate May 15, 2016! Besides these things, I am passionate about my family, traveling, the Minnesota Vikings, and my friends.

My wonderful husband, Nick
Meet the man behind the blog, Nick! We met several years ago in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was pretty much love at first sight, and less than two years later we were engaged and moving to another country. Nick has played professional ice hockey in Sweden, Germany, Russia, Norway, and Finland. Currently, Nick is the Regional Vice President at New York Life MainStay Investments.

  1. Wait, whoa whoa wait! You commented on my blog the other day, so I thought I would come back to your site and take a look. I knew you looked familiar. How did I not recognize you from Hockey Wife, Hockey Life? I still can't get over how cute that name was, however the new blog is looking stunning! I'm so happy your content is continuing to amaze and I'm excited to be back on board!

    Always,

    1. Hi Holly, what a small world! I was just in Iowa City on Saturday for the Minnesota-Hawkeyes game. How cool that you saw my husband play in Västerås - we absolutely loved the city! Do you make it back there often?

  6. So happy to have found your blog through The Travel Hack! I'm visiting Stockholm for the first time and wanted to ask if you have advice on where to go about finding hockey games to watch! As a fellow hockey gal (originally from Wisco), I was excited to find a kindred spirit in the travel blogging world! :-)
Enjoy Thailand - you will love it!
    Cheers,

    1. Hi Jessica - happy you found it as well! As far as hockey games, I'm the perfect person to ask as my husband played professional hockey in Sweden for many years! When will you be visiting Stockholm? The hockey season usually runs from September to March, plus playoffs throughout the month of March and early, early April. If you are visiting soon unfortunately you might be out of luck for hockey! In any case, if you have ANY questions about Stockholm or Sweden in general let me know and I'd love to help you out! Where in Wisconsin are you from?

And yes - absolutely loved Thailand! We had been there two years ago for our honeymoon, fell in love, and thus the reason for our return trip a few weeks ago!

  7. Thanks so much for getting back to me, Samantha! I'm actually in Stockholm right now so it sounds like I"ll have to come back to see a hockey game! That suits me just fine since I quickly fell in love with this city - from the culture, to the history, to the shopping :-) I'm loving it all.
I'm from Madison originally but now live in San Diego. I travel quite a bit for work, which is what has me in Stockholm for the week. Glad to hear you loved Thailand (x2!) - I went a few years ago and cannot wait to go back!
    Cheers,
    Jessica

    1. Definitely a good reason to come back! When you do there are several teams in Stockholm so you should be able to catch a game! Enjoy the rest of your time in Stockholm - find a basement pub or two to relax in, such a cool cultural aspect of Stockholm!
