Life Lately // January & February

It is definitely winter here in Västerås!
Wow, I can't believe it is already February! February has kind of taken on a different meaning for me over the last two years- while it is still the beginning of the calendar year, for myself (and anyone else in this hockey lifestyle) it marks the end of the hockey season. Of course, it isn't over yet- we still have 7 more games, and then playoffs (kvalserien). However, in any case, exactly two months from now is the last possible date of hockey season. So, February marks a change in pace.

In addition to the quickly-approaching end of hockey season, February means that - FINALLY - the sun has started to show it's face a little bit more around here! There is now a full eight hours between sunrise and sunset- which is a huge difference compared to the four hours we grew accustomed to in November and December.

my favorite "Stockholm" picture I take every time!
A few days ago, I had the pleasure of meeting up with a relative of mine I haven't seen in probably at least 15 years. He was visiting his daughter (graduating from her Ph.D., congrats!) in Denmark, and then visited Sweden and Norway. Because of the family tie, I headed into Stockholm for the day to show him a bit of the city and grab a bite to eat! We had such a terrific time catching up and reconnecting. Thanks for a terrific day, Dave!

I won't make you look at a picture of my homework. Rather, my hockey team is doing well! Last weekend we had two games, and came away with two wins, so that is always terrific!
I also received my final grade for my most recent MBA class today. With a 98% in the course I am now officially 30% done with my MBA and have straight A's! I am pretty happy about this, and excited that my upcoming course is in marketing (finally!) The degree I am obtaining is an international MBA with a specialization in marketing, so I am excited to finally work with my concentration. Currently, though, I am enjoying having a one-week break from courses! Because my program runs year-round, it is quite a different experience from University when I really only had classes 8 months of the year. These week-long breaks every 11 weeks are completely necessary!

love the city streets of Stockholm!
Beyond just relaxing this week, I am excited and preparing for our weekend trip to Riga! I cannot wait to explore the city with Nick, and take a little break from daily life. How has your 2015 started out?

  1. Great job on your grades! Are you taking your courses at a university in Sweden or is it online? I am really interested in starting studies again just trying to decide if I want to do them online or find a program here.

    1. Thanks! I am doing my courses online through Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) as they have a really flexible online program. I couldn't really do a brick-and-mortar school since I never know where we will be in the future. Definitely look into it! I love how flexible it is, and that you can go at your own pace.

  2. Yeyy! Congrats on your MBA! Sounds like you're doing great, keep doing what you are doing! Any study tips you might want to pass on? I'm having the hardest time! Thank you Sam, hope you have a great February!

    1. Thanks Ana! I think as far as study tips, I just really tend to block out my time of when I am doing homework- and I've told my husband he isn't allowed to interrupt me during those times! Also, I've heard (and noticed!) that the first hour of your morning is the most productive. Because of this, the first hour when I wake up is usually when I tackle some homework, then I take a break for blogging/ housework/ etc. Hope you have a great February too!

  4. Aw, come back to Stockholm so we can grab a coffee! But first, have a great trip to Riga! I've heard their architecture is particularly great, so I look forward to seeing the photos!
