HTL Kungsgatan
Hello! This past weekend, Nick and I took a quick trip into Stockholm for the day to meet up with some friends of ours. After checking out various hotels, we settled on HTL Kungsgatan as our hotel choice for the weekend. HTL Kungsgatan just opened in May 2014, so is a relatively new property. For us, when we are picking out hotels the two most important things are location, followed by price. We selected HTL Kungsgatan because it has a great location- it is less than a 5 minute walk from Stockholm Central Station, and a short 5-10 minute walk to Gamla Stan. Beyond the excellent location, the very affordable rates also drew us in- on their website, HTL Kungsgatan advertises rooms from 799 SEK/night (about $120).

the check in location
When we arrived to HTL Kungsgatan, we were just slightly thrown off as there is no traditional reception/check-in desk. Rather, there are several check-in stations where you check yourself into a room and get your own key card. The process was relatively easy. However, we arrived around 12 and our rooms would not be ready until 2 or so- the computer simply told us that our rooms couldn't be processed at that time, so we had to ask a hotel worker anyways, who explained to us that we could only check in after 2 PM. With that, we dropped our luggage off at their storage lockers and headed out to the city for the day.

Once we were able to check in and head to our rooms, the rooms were adequate for what we needed. We had opted to stay in the "HTL Sleeper Room", a cheaper room option that is very 'lagom' - everything you need, and nothing more. The HTL Sleeper Room is unique in that it is located in the basement of the hotel and is windowless. We had no complaints about the room or the lack of window, especially as we really just used the room to sleep in. If you will be spending a significant amount of time in the room, I may recommend paying the extra for a window. One piece of advice: bring something to cover up the temperature gauge, as every 5 minutes or so throughout the night a bright blue light will light up the entire room. About halfway through the evening I woke up, found a glove, and used that to cover up the light and slept great for the rest of the evening.

breakfast at HTL Kungsgatan
In the morning, we woke up, placed our luggage in the storage lockers, and headed out to the city again for the day. While we didn't have the breakfast located at HTL Kungsgatan, the selection looked to be wide and varied. The bar and outdoor patio area looked super cozy- I would love to have visited HTL Kungsgatan during the summer and experienced the outdoor patio! Overall, I would highly recommend HTL Kungsgatan. The check-in process was relatively quick and easy, our rooms were adequate, and the stay was everything we needed. Two key things to note about the HTL Sleeper rooms are that extra blankets and towels will be located underneath your bed, and that the rooms come equipped with a hair dryer and USB plugs. Lastly, HTL Kungsgatan also  has free wifi available in the hotel and rooms.

In the future, I am sure Nick and I will be staying at HTL Kungsgatan again thanks to the great location and prices!

  1. This looks and sounds like a great place to stay indeed. It is a great price and you really don't need windows when you are just basically sleeping in the room. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Rebecca, that is exactly what we thought. If we had stayed there several days, then the windows may have been a problem- but it was no issue for one night.

  5. When it comes to choosing hotels, we follow the same two important factors: location and the nprice. The ambiance of the HTL Sleeper Room looked decent so I guess it has a good value for money.

    1. It was definitely a good value for the money, especially as we only spent one night. I imagine if it was more we would have upgraded to a window room!

  7. Wow. Those pictures are amazing. It looks like you really had a great adventure in the city. Price is a huge draw when it comes to hotels especially since most of the time you are sightseeing anyway.

    1. Kay, that's exactly what we thought. Since we were only spending one night, the low price was huge for us. Most of our day was spent out in the city!
