30+ in 13 Months

Updated: January 21, 2015: at this point in time, I have decided to discontinue my pursuit of 30+ in 13 months. My priorities over the last year or so have changed, and while I have accomplished many things on this list, some of them I actively chose not to do. Because of this, I have discontinued my progress on the list, and am instead focusing on daily life! Thank you readers, as always, for your support!

When I first started blogging, I noticed a lot of bloggers that had "30 under 30" or "25 before 25" lists, of things they wanted to do and accomplish before turning a certain age. For awhile, I thought these lists were very unrealistic and that I did not want to make one. However, the more I started to think about it- and the closer we are to my birthday- the more I have realized it is not the idea of the lists I disliked, but what many chose to put on their lists. I've seen lists saying  with items such as 'get married,' 'have kids,' and 'find my dream job'. While these are great things to make a priority, I disagree with the idea of doing them by a certain age- firstly, because you can't plan things like that, and secondly because oftentimes it requires effort by more than just you!

With that being said, I decided to make my list a little more realistic. Some of these things are things I already have firm plans to do- plane tickets booked, classes signed up for, etc. Other things are items I want to do, and I firmly believe that publicly speaking about your goals makes you more apt to do them. Especially if I write blog posts about each one- then I have to hold myself accountable and keep working on my list! With that being said, here are the 30+ things I want to complete in the next 13 months before my 25th birthday. The first 30 are items I prioritize and want to make sure I accomplish. The next items are ones I will give myself bonus points for if I can accomplish, or at least work on accomplishing them.

1. Host a dinner party. Oh, definitely did this several times! 25 people for Thanksgiving counts for sure.
2. Buy myself something nice & don't feel guilty about it.
3. Send letters and postcards  to friends & family.
4. Visit a city I've never been to. Check, check, and check. Bangkok, Koh Samui, Berlin, and Bergen are just some of the highlights!
5. Read 50 books. I smoked this one- probably close to 100 this year!
6. Spend quality time with my girlfriends when I'm home for the summer.
7. Go on a wine tour.
8. Love & make my husband a priority, every single day. Always working on this!
9. Plan a surprise party. Had a surprise party for Nick's birthday!
10. Visit another continent besides North America and Europe. Asia!
11. Continue work on my Master's degree. Working away on this, so far with a 4.0 and 30% done!
13. Go on a dinner date to a nice restaurant- alone.
14. Get up to date with scrapbooking. I worked on it this summer- but wow, 10 months of scrapbooking is a lot to catch up on!
15. Watch the sun set in 5 different cities. This happened in many more than five cities: Karlskrona, Stockholm, Västerås, Bergen, Berlin, Koh Samui, Tokyo, Bangkok, Minneapolis, and Las Vegas!
16. Pick up the tab for no reason.
17. Talk with that friend from college. Tell her what happened. I decided I didn't need closure. She is out of my life, and there is no need to rehash the past!
18. Take a wine & painting class.
19. Go stand-up paddle boarding.
20. Hit the bullseye at the gun range. Similar to last year, Nick and I's last 'American' date before heading to Sweden was the gun range. I finally hit the bullseye!
21. Ride on (or at least pet!) an elephant. Sadly, I had an experience with elephants in Thailand...
22. Go to a play/musical.
23. Go to a drive-in movie theater.
24. Go water-skiing (again).
25. Pay it forward. Yep, this happened!
26. Send out a Christmas Card. check and check!
27. Find the perfect little black dress. Thank you Las Vegas!
28. Take more walks.
29. Go horseback riding.
30. Go kayaking somewhere new. Koh Samui, Thailand!

Bonus Points:
1. (take cooking classes) Accomplished this with Thai Cooking Classes!
2. (Get front row tickets to a concert)
3. (learn to dance)
4. (learn a language)
5. (Go on a cruise) Accomplished in Bangkok along the Chao Phraya River!
6. (re-visit Oktoberfest in Munich) Definitely did this with my family!

That's it for now! Of course, I'll do many more things over the next 13 months..but just some ideas of what I want to accomplish!
